It's Super 8s make-or-break time, says Phil Clarke

Kingston upon Hull, England - Hull FC's Mahe Fonua is congratulated by Sika Manu on his try against Wigan.

Has there ever been a better week for rugby league action on Sky Sports?  I doubt it.

I know that we've had some great games in the past and that last week we had two dramatic contests that kept you in suspense until the final hooter, but this week it gets even better.

With four games over three days, we've added a new part to the 'roller coaster ride' of a rugby league season, all with an on-board camera fitted for your enjoyment.

Depending on which team you follow, you will either have a massive smile when you wake up on Sunday morning or just feel sick and want to go back to bed. There are arguments 'for' and 'against' the current format but it's certainly given us an intriguing last round.

Live Super League Super 8s

There seems to be as many permutations for third and fourth as there are on a Rubik's Cube but what we do know is that Hull FC and St Helens have more control than Wakefield or Wigan.

If Saints win, they are in, that's easy to understand. Their points difference gives them an advantage and it highlights how good their defence has been in comparison to Hull, Wigan and Wakefield.

League leaders Castleford hit Wigan for a magnificent seven tries to put a dent in the champions' title defence

Hull FC simply have to win at Castleford, but that's far from simple.

The Tigers have lost just once in 14 home games this year and looked as good last week without Luke Gale and Ben Roberts as they have all season.

Although Hull FC won't lack confidence as they outscored the Tigers four tries to three when they narrowly lost there in June.

Nothing in sport ever goes exactly to plan, which means that if I were guessing, Wakefield and Wigan will still have something to play for on Saturday afternoon and the Saints or Hull fans will be nervously watching on TV.

It feels as though the Trinity team have been so unlucky this season.

They've lost more close games than they won in the first 23 rounds, and then narrowly lost their last two games, when most neutrals felt that they'd been the better team.

They were so close to having three more points on the league ladder which would have put them in third and not sixth place. Still, every team could look back at the games they've almost won.

Highlights of the Super 8s Qualifiers fixture between Hull KR and Catalans Dragons

When I watched the Catalans Dragons last Friday at Hull KR, I quickly realised that it's not necessarily the best players or the best teams who win at this stage in the season.

It's the ones who are the best at performing under pressure. I know that it's easier said than done but that's what makes professional sport interesting.

Without a form of promotion or relegation, the games that the Dragons, Vikings and Centurions play this week have very little interest, as it is, they become must-see events.

When teams sign players or train them through their academies they work on their speed, skill, strength and stamina, but this week they also need a 'steel-like' mentality that won't bend under pressure. The mentally strongest can block out everything else and live and play in the moment.
