French test ahead for Four Nations candidates

Hull forward Joe Westerman will captain the newly-formed England Knights in their first match against France at Leigh Sports Village. The squad of emerging Super League players is the brainchild of England head coach Steve McNamara as he looks ahead to the 2013 World Cup, but impressive performances could earn promotion to his final Four Nations squad which must be submitted on Monday. Warrington second rower Ben Westwood, who is already in McNamara's 24-man senior squad, will get a run-out to gain match fitness after playing just one game in the last two months because of a knee injury. Westwood is one of five Wolves players named by Knights coach Kieron Purtill in a 19-man squad, including half-back Richie Myler who has been appointed vice-captain. Salford and Wigan have three players each, although Reds utility back Stefan Ratchford will be playing for Warrington in 2012. The Knights, who have been training alongside the senior squad at Loughborough University this week, also have a fixture against Cumbria in Whitehaven on Saturday week. England Knights: S Ratchford (Salford); J Charnley (Wigan), J Arundel (Castleford), K Welham (Hull KR), J Broughton (Salford); R Myler (Warrington), M Smith (Salford); B Harrison (Warrington), D Houghton (Hull), L Mossop (Wigan), J Westerman (Hull, capt), B Westwood (Warrington), L Farrell (Wigan). Subs (from): L Gale (Harlequins), P Clough (St Helens), M Cooper (Warrington), L Watts (Hull KR), C Riley (Warrington), C Clarkson (Leeds).
