Hull KR's Stanley Gene has expressed an interest in coaching Papua New Guinea at the 2013 World Cup.
The veteran stand-off is the first and only player to play in three consecutive World Cups spanning 13 years and was in superb form during the Kumuls' 32-22 defeat by England in the World Cup opener last Saturday.
"If the role was offered to me, then I would be proud and honoured to coach my country at the next World Cup" Gene told the
Hull Daily Mail.
"I'm helping Adrian Lam at the minute because I'm one of the more experienced players and I'm enjoying that side of things.
"We have a lot of young players in our squad and I've enjoyed helping them settle into the squad."
Papua New Guinea's next game is against New Zealand is on the Gold Coast on November 1.
