Player faces logistical nightmare if Samoa reach World Cup semi-final qualifier stage

Samoan hooker David Faiumu has been ordered to attend court on the same day as the World Cup semi-final qualifier. The 25-year-old Huddersfield player is due to attend Rockhampton Magistrates Court in Queensland on November 10 for a committal hearing on serious assault charges which is expected to take two days. That is also the day of the semi-final qualifier on the Gold Coast, which the Samoans are favourites to reach following their opening 20-12 Pool C win over Tonga at Penrith. Faiumu has been charged with grievous bodily harm following an alleged assault of a 23-year-old man in Rockhampton last November. He missed the Tongan game due to a hamstring injury but hopes to face Ireland in the deciding group game at Parramatta Stadium next Wednesday.
