Super League: Iestyn Harris pleased with response shown by his Salford side

Salford coach Iestyn Harris praised his players for producing the response he wanted after beating relegated London Broncos 58-26.

Owner Marwan Koukash cancelled the players' end-of-season party after the heavy defeat at Wakefield last Sunday which dashed Salford's faint top-eight hopes.

Sunday's 10-try canter against the First Utility Super League basement boys was just what Harris ordered, although he was still not completely satisfied.

"I wanted a response and got it, although it wasn't a 10-out-of-10 performance," said Harris, whose side led 52-8 after an hour before conceding three converted tries.

"The players have had a tough week and were always going to run out of a bit of energy. But the response with the ball was good, although we were a little bit sloppy in the second half.

"We were crucified in the penalty count and I am left scratching my head how it was 11-3 against us.”

Harris praised the performance of Josh Griffin, who came back into the side and scored a hat-trick of tries, while also booting nine goals for a personal tally of 30 points.

"Josh Griffin has been biding his time after losing his place after the Wigan performance and took his chance well,” Harris said.

"He looked very good with the ball in his hand and was strong defensively."

Grima positive

London coach Joe Grima took some positives after the latest loss for his rock-bottom team.

"There were not many positives, although we only lost the second half 28-22," he conceded. "We spoke about possibly suffering a backlash from Salford after their performance last week.

"Rangi Chase played particularly well just after half-time and had the ball on a string. They scored three consecutive long-range tries but we could have capitulated and didn't.

"We gave a debut to up-and-coming Toby Everett and he was phenomenal with the job he was asked to do.

"Oscar Thomas did a remarkable job with limited preparation and continued to ask questions."
