St Helens coach Keiron Cunningham has confirmed that winger Tommy Makinson will be out of action for around three months after breaking his leg.
The injury occurred in a seemingly innocuous challenge late in the Super League match against Salford on Friday night.
"We are totally devastated for Tommy. He seems to have the St. Helens curse that if you're playing well, you get injured,” Cunningham said.
“We're not saying it's season over for him. He's a quick healer and could be back before the end of the year. We'll have to see."
Meanwhile Saints are still waiting to hear if James Roby will be fit for the derby match with Wigan.
