Edinburgh's Magners League season ended on a sour note as they were routed 31-6 by Treviso in Italy.
Interim head coach Nick Scrivener, who will return to his native Australia next week, had hoped that a run of three wins in four games could inspire a rare victory away from home.
But there was to be no happy send-off as Treviso dominated from start to finish in front of a vocal crowd at the Stadio di Monigo.
The hosts made the perfect start as Luke McLean went over in the corner with just two minutes gone and Willem De Waal added the extras.
De Waal extended the advantage with a penalty before Chris Paterson finally got Edinburgh on the board with three points of his own, but two more Treviso penalties followed.
Paterson's second penalty kept Edinburgh in touch but the visitors lost scrum-half Greig Laidlaw to injury just before half-time and went into the interval trailing 16-6.
Any hopes of a comeback were dashed when De Waal put over another penalty straight after the restart, then both Steven Turnbull and Paterson followed Laidlaw off injured.
To complete a miserable final game in charge for Scrivener, McLean glided over for his second try then played in Robert Barbieri to complete Treviso's one-sided victory.
The match was also a poor send-off for Scott MacLeod, who is moving to Kobe Steelers in Japan, and David Blair, who is leaving the club.
