Toulouse returned to the Top 14 summit with a 22-9 win over Clermont at the Stade Ernest Wallon on Saturday.
The result was never in doubt after the hosts established a 15-3 lead at half-time courtesy of tries from centre Yann David and winger Timoci Matanavou.
Fly-half Luke McAlister converted Matanavou's try and also added a further penalty as Toulouse took control of proceedings.
Clermont pivot Brock James managed a three-pointer in the first half and then slotted over two more penalties after the break to reduce the gap.
But Toulouse full-back Clement Poitrenaud dampened the visitors' hopes of a comeback, slicing through Clermont defence for his side's third try. McAlister was once again on target with the extras.
