Ronnie O'Sullivan suffered a 10-7 defeat to Thailand's Thepchaiya Un-Nooh in a scintillating World Open final, in which Un-Nooh hit a 147 break in the penultimate frame.

In his 66th ranking final, searching for a record-extending 42nd title, O'Sullivan surged into an early 4-0 lead only for Un-Nooh to reel off the next six frames in succession.

But back came 'The Rocket', retaking the lead as he produced a stunning streak of three-straight century breaks - of 114, 102 and 136 - to nudge 7-6 ahead.

Incredibly, Un-Nooh was again more than equal to his opponent, as he won the next four frames, the final three of which with centuries of his own, including a maximum to put him 9-7 up as he secured a memorably victory.

He bcomes only the second Thai player to win a full format-ranking event, after James Wattana.

Earlier in the tournament, on Friday, O'Sullivan made the highest break in professional snooker by hitting a 153 at the tournament.

The 50-year-old achieved the feat after leaving quarter-final opponent Ryan Day in a snooker at the start of the opening frame and the Welshman's failed attempt to get out of it handed O'Sullivan a free ball.

That allowed the seven-time world champion to commence his break with the green, followed by his opening black to put him on eight points before even beginning on the reds.

O'Sullivan has signed up to compete in the World Seniors Championship for the first time this year.
