And that is where we start, Rafael Nadal is aiming to win his third title in succession having claimed victory in Monte Carlo and Barcelona and is chasing a fifth title in the Spanish capital - he's the red-hot favourite for a reason.

The top two in the world, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic, have suffered a slow start to the season by their own very high standards.

Murray is on the mend from injury and Djokovic has dispensed with his entire coaching staff in his latest attempt to turn a corner - what will the pair deliver in Madrid.
