Victoria Azarenka’s nightmare season continues with the former world No 1 saying she will miss the remainder of the year because of injury.
The 25-year-old from Belarus has endured an injury-plagued 2014 and she will spend the remaining few months preparing for next year.
The Australian Open champion from 2012 and 2013 has struggled with foot and knee problems which have curtailed her appearances in recent months.
During the current campaign she has played in just seven tournaments while missing five months during the first half of the year.
As a result her ranking has dropped to No 25 which will be even lower by the time she next picks up a racket in 2015.
Her last tournament victory on the WTA Tour came over 13 months ago and she posted a message on her Facebook page which read: "Unfortunately, I will not be competing in any tournaments for the remainder of the season.
"It has been a very tough year for me. I have been trying my best to improve day-in and day-out by pushing and pushing but that does not appear to be the best approach for me right now.
"I will use this time to work on making a full recovery and take care of my body to compete at my best next season."
