Great Britain's Aljaz Bedene lost in the first round of the China Open before Milos Raonic and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga followed him out of the tournament.
The British No 2 Bedene fell at the first hurdle in Beijing despite convincingly taking the first set against Lukas Rosol, who eventually won 1-6 7-6 (8-6) 6-3.
The defeat means the world No 54 Bedene will not crack the ATP's top 50 for the first time in his career.
After claiming the opener, Bedene had break points in the second set but the Czech Republic's Rosol eventually outlasted him.
Raonic, the fifth seed, then lost 6-4 6-4 to Viktor Troicki in their first round encounter.
Eighth seed Tsonga also crashed out in another shock result, losing 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 to Andreas Haider-Maurer.
Elsewhere, seventh seed David Goffin ousted Andreas Seppi 6-2 6-3 and Jack Sock beat Teymuraz Gabashvili 6-4 6-3.
Fabio Fognini advanced to the second round with a 6-2 6-1 win over Martin Klizan while there was delight for the home crowd in China as Zhang Ze edged Denis Istomin 6-3 1-6 6-3.
