Aljaz Bedene failed to reach the Chennai Open final after a semi-final defeat by Borna Coric.

The British No 2 reached the final of last year's tournament, but missed out on a repeat appearance after losing 7-6 (7-5) 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 to the eighth seeded Croat.

In a match featuring 24 break points, Bedene broke just three times, while Coric needed just four to complete a four-set win.

Coric will play Stan Wawrinka in the final after the top seed and defending champion cruised to a 6-3 6-4 win over French third seed Benoit Paire.

The French Open champion took just one hour and five minutes to clinch victory and is satisfied with his start to the year.

"I'm happy with what I have done so far," he said. "I'm feeling great. But you know, the season is really on.
