Venus Williams has collected the 49th prize of her illustrious career with victory in the Taiwan Open final.
The seven-time Grand Slam winner defeated Japan's Misaki Doi 6-4 6-2 on Sunday to become the first player to win the new competition in Taiwan and didn't drop a set throughout.
The 35-year-old had lost in the opening rounds of the Auckland Classic and the Australian Open recently but is firmly back in the win column after pioneering her sport in a new country.
"It's wonderful to have women's tennis here, It's been too long, it's the first time in 22 years," she said.
Williams' 49 career titles leave her seventh on the all-time list and she narrowly trails Monica Seles (53) and Lindsay Davenport (55). She is currently the world No 12.
