Venus Williams has collected the 49th prize of her illustrious career with victory in the Taiwan Open final.

The seven-time Grand Slam winner defeated Japan's Misaki Doi 6-4 6-2 on Sunday to become the first player to win the new competition in Taiwan and didn't drop a set throughout.

The 35-year-old had lost in the opening rounds of the Auckland Classic and the Australian Open recently but is firmly back in the win column after pioneering her sport in a new country.

"It's wonderful to have women's tennis here, It's been too long, it's the first time in 22 years," she said.
