Novak Djokovic stormed past Tommy Robredo as he began his challenge for a fifth Dubai Championships title.

The world No 1, in action for the first time since he beat Andy Murray in the Australian Open final, beat his Spanish opponent 6-1 6-2 in the opening round in Dubai.

Djokovic will next face world No 121 Malek Jaziri who shocked Mikhail Youzhny in the opening match on the show court, the wild card easing to a surprisingly comfortable win over the two-time US Open semi-finalist.

Youzhny, who reached the main draw having come through qualifying, has dropped to No 78 in the world rankings and offered little threat against Tunisia's Jaziri who came through 6-4 6-1.
