Tomas Berdych has fired his coach Dani Vallverdu after 17 months working together.

Berdych's announcement on Monday comes after he was beaten 6-0 6-0 by David Goffin in the third round of the Italian Open.

The world No 8 says the move is a reaction to his poor recent form, which has seen him win 19 matches and lose 10 in 2016.

"My results lately have not been what I expected," he said.

"I am not a player at the beginning of my career, so I had to act quickly when I felt like making a change."
