Marcos Baghdatis has withdrawn from the Olympics after failing to recover from an elbow injury.

Cyprus will no longer be represented in the tennis competition in Rio as the right-hander was the only player due to travel in a 17-strong squad.

The 31-year-old world No 42 represented his country at London 2012 where he was beaten by eventual winner Andy Murray at the last-16 stage.

"It is clear that unless I am 100 per cent fit and healthy to compete, I shall not participate at the Olympics because I would be doing injustice to my country," said Baghdatis.
