Dominika Cibulkova claimed her third title of the season and seventh in all by beating Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland 6-3 7-5 in the Generali Ladies final in Linz on Sunday.

The victory earned the 10th-ranked Slovak a place at the season-ending WTA Finals for the first time in her career.

Cibulkova, the second seed in Austria, also won at Katowice in April and Eastbourne in June, and has appeared in three more finals this year.

The 27-year-old avoided break points to take the opening set but dropped her serve while leading 3-1 in the second and was then forced to save four Golubic set points at 5-4.

Golubic started the year in 178th place in the rankings before climbing to 62nd, with Linz her second career final after winning at Gstaad in July.
