Naomi Broady has been knocked out of the Hungarian Ladies Open in Budapest after suffering a disappointing opening round defeat to qualifier Anna Blinkova.
The British No 3 was a set up against her Russian opponent, who is ranked 48 places lower at 148, but was unable to press home her advantage.
Broady served 16 aces but dropped serve once in both the second and third sets to lose 3-6 6-4 6-3 in an hour and 45 minutes.
The 26-year-old has never made it past the second round of a Grand Slam event - a feat she achieved at Wimbledon in 2014 and at the US Open last year - although she was knocked out in the opening round of this year's Australian Open.
Broady has won nine singles titles on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Women's Circuit and was a beaten finalist at the ITF/USTA $100,000 event in Midland, Michigan in February.
At the Dubai Tennis Championships, French Open champion Garbine Muguruza retired with a left Achilles injury in her second-round match against Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine.
The seventh-ranked Spaniard drew the trainer on court when trailing 3-0, but they spoke only during the medical timeout and she didn't receive any treatment, but quit at 4-1 down.
