Tim Henman believes Johanna Konta's rise along with her ability on hard courts puts her in a great place to contend for the US Open.

The British No 1 made it to the semi-finals of Wimbledon for the first time, although she was comprehensively beaten by Venus Williams, and currently finds herself ranked at seven in the world.

"I think [she can challenge]," said Henman. "I think hard courts are probably her best surface.

"She won in Miami which is their next biggest tournament outside of a major, so she's beaten a lot of the best players in the world and she had a great run to the semis at Wimbledon.

"You'd like to think that in the next few years she can be in the finals of a slam and hopefully win one."

While Konta herself believes she has a lot of improvements to make before she can challenge for the big prizes.

"I've got a massive amount of room to grow in all areas of my game to be quite honest," she told the BBC earlier this month.

"I know there's a lot of work to be done between now and achieving such things. I definitely feel I can physically improve. I'd like to get stronger, move even better on the court - maximise my movement."
