Nick Kyrgios has pulled out of Indian Wells through recurrent elbow injury

Nick Kyrgios of Australia plays a backhand in his second round match against Viktor Troicki of Serbia on day three of the Australian Open

Nick Kyrgios’ return to tennis has been delayed after he withdrew from Indian Wells with an elbow injury.

Kyrgios hasn't played since suffering the injury in a Davis Cup tie last month with his last match on the ATP Tour coming in the Australian Open fourth-round defeat against Grigor Dimitrov.

An elbow complaint forced his withdrawal from Acapulco and - although he planned to return on Saturday in Indian Wells - a recurrence of the injury will keep him sidelined.

Kyrgios was also forced to pull out of Indian Wells last year after he beat Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev and was due to play Roger Federer.

This year, lucky loser Matteo Berrettini will replace Kyrgios against Daniil Medvedev.

You can watch the Masters 1000 from Indian Wells with coverage getting underway from 7pm on Sky Sports Action and via the red button on the same channel this Thursday. You can also watch it from 10.30pm on Sky Sports Main Event.
