Cat takes to the court during Italian Open quarter final. Was he a baseliner or serve and volley specialist? Watch here to find out!

Anyone for tennis? A cat decided it fancied a closer look at the action as it ran onto the court at the Italian Open.

Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo were taking on Colombian duo Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah in the doubles quarter-finals when the match was disrupted as a cat arrived on the scene.

Tennis players with a crisp volleying game are often described as having cat-like reflexes but this cat proved a bit lost at the net and it was more a case of me-out than meow, as it scarpered towards the stands after nearly being hit by an overhead smash.

However, despite its efforts on the court, the cat burgled the attentions of the Rome crowd, and got a warm round of applause as it ran out of the court.
