The 20-year-old Croatian - a qualifier at the Rochusclub tournament - needed only 46 minutes to dismiss home hopeful Dustin Brown 6-3 6-0 and book his place alongside Kohlschreiber in the last eight.

The German, ranked 182 places above Delic in the ATP standings, reached the quarter-finals by beating Teymuraz Gabashvili 6-3 6-1 earlier on Wednesday.

Defending champion Juan Monaco needed to get the better of Spanish second seed Marcel Granollers to progress, and he succeeded. The Argentinian's 6-1 6-2 victory sets up a last-eight clash with Ivo Karlovic.

The Croatian is seeded seventh in Dusseldorf and encountered few problems against 18-year-old Nikola Milojevic on his way to claiming a 6-4 7-5 win.

Jason Kubler was unable to clinch both his first and second ATP Tour wins on the same day.

The 21-year-old from Brisbane completed a 7-5 3-6 6-1 victory over Alessandro Giannessi after their first-round match was postponed for bad light late on Tuesday, but later fell short against Denis Istomin.

Kubler betrayed any signs of fatigue to take the first set against the Uzbek, who used his experience to push back and win 3-6 6-4 6-2.

Istomin's next opponent is third seed Andreas Seppi - the world number 33 dispatched his fellow Italian Adrian Mannarino 6-2 6-1.

Joao Sousa, the fourth seed, succumbed to a 7-6 (7/6) 4-6 6-4 defeat at the hands of Jurgen Melzer while Jiri Vesely became the German's last-eight opponent by beating Nikolay Davydenko 6-1 7-6 (7/5).
