Top seed Agnieszka Radwanska crashed out of the WTA Korea Open at the quarter-final stage, losing to American Varvara Lepchenko in three sets.
Polish world No 5 Radwanska won the first set tie-break before fifth seed Lepchenko roared to 6-2 victories in the second and third set.
Lepchenko served up the only two aces of the match and broke Radwanska nine times en route to booking her place in the semi-finals.
The 28-year-old will face either compatriot Christina McHale or Slovakian fourth seed Magdakeba Rybarikova for a place in Sunday’s final.
With Radwanska dumped out, second seed Karolina Pliskova is the highest ranked player left in the tournament after defeating Nicole Gibbs in straight sets.
Czech Pliskova triumphed 6-3 6-4 against the American qualifier, serving up seven aces en route to five breaks in the match.
The winner of the quarter-final clash between sixth seed Kaia Kanepi of Estonia and Russia’s Maria Kililenko stands in Pliskova’s path to the final.
