Richard Gasquet won his 11th ATP Tour tournament after Jerzy Janowicz retired sick in the Montpellier final.
The Frenchman, who beat last year’s winner Gael Monfils in the semi-finals, was declared the Open Sud de France champion when he was 3-0 up in the first set.
Fourth-seed Gasquet also won the tournament in 2006 and 2013 as well as losing to Monfils in last year’s final.
Gasquet, 28, boasts two Grand Slam semi-final appearances in his 13-year professional career, having lost to Roger Federer at Wimbledon 2007 and Rafa Nadal at the US Open in 2013.
Disappointed
Poland's No 1 Janowicz said: "I'm extremely disappointed because I felt pretty okay the whole week.
"But two days ago I got sick. I haven't slept in almost two days. I had a fever and the flu and I'm so weak. There was not much that I could do today."
Meanwhile, Englishman Dominic Inglot was defeated in the Monpellier event’s men’s doubles final alongside partner Florin Mergea.
Inglot and Mergea were beaten 16-14 in a third-set tie break after winning the first set 6-3 but losing the second 6-4.
