Laura Robson insists she was happy to be back on court after a 17-month injury lay-off despite winning just one game of her comeback match in Eastbourne.
The former British No 1 accepted a wildcard to the Aegon Classic but was thrashed 6-0 6-1 in just under an hour by top seed Daria Gavrilova.
“I’m extremely happy to be back and to be finishing matches, to be playing tournaments and looking forward to the next one,” Robson told Sky Sports News HQ.
“I definitely was hoping to win today, as any player would, but in the grand scheme of things, it’s been a long road back to this point and that’s what counts at the moment.”
Robson’s last competitive match was at the Australian Open in 2014 and she underwent wrist surgery three months later.
“I’ve been pain free for a while now and I’m extremely happy about that,” added Robson
“Any match would have been tough and no matter who I played would have been a struggle. I don’t want to say it went well but it could have been worse and it’s given me a lot to work on for the next tournament.”
The 21-year-old must now wait and see if she is handed a wildcard for Wimbledon.
“That would be great because it’s my favourite tournament of the year, so I would absolutely love to play.
“But I haven’t heard anything so I don’t want to go all in on Wimbledon, but any tournament I would absolutely happy to play.”
