Heather Watson reached the second round of the AEGON International after winning her delayed match against Varvara Lepchenko at Eastbourne.
Rain suspended the start of her opening encounter, which was originally due to take place on Monday morning, and the British No 1 seized command when she finally arrived on court at 6pm, completing a 7-6 (7-5) 6-2 win.
After edging out her American opponent in the first set tie-break, Watson raced through the second to secure her progress.
But British wildcard Harriet Dart has bowed out after marking her WTA debut with a straight sets defeat to Dominika Cibulkova.
The 18-year-old from London suffered a 6-1 6-3 loss to the 2014 Australian Open finalist in a match lasting an hour and 19 minutes on Court One.
Cibulkova will next face this year's French Open runner-up and third seed Lucie Safarova.
