Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine claimed her first WTA tournament as she beat Urszula Radwanska 7-5 6-1 to win the Istanbul Cup.

The 26-year-old from Kiev was competing in her first final against fellow unseeded player Radwanska, the younger sister of 2012 Wimbledon finalist Agnieszka.

World No 99 Radwanska from Poland spurned three set points with Tsurenko serving at 5-4 down in the opener before her opponent won seven games on the bounce to take control of the match.

That saw her take a 7-5 4-0 advantage before securing the title a few games later after an hour and 32 minutes on court.

"When I saw the draw it looked tough, but I believe that if you go to a tournament you can win it," Tsurenko told the WTA’s official website.

"You have to think like this. And I'm so happy I could win here and show good tennis.

"That's my goal, getting good results and showing good tennis."

Tsurenko's best WTA results before the win in Turkey were semi-final appearances at Brisbane in 2013 and Tashkent in 2014.

Radwanska has now lost both WTA finals she has been involved in, the last defeat coming against Nadia Petrova in the 's Hertogenbosch final in 2012.
