British No 2 Aljaz Bedene reached the quarter-finals of the Hamburg Open after knocking out third-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets.
The Slovenian-born player followed up his win over Daniel Gimeno-Traver with a hard-fought 7-6 (7-2) 7-6 (9-7) success against Bautista Agut.
Bedene, who reached the second round of Wimbledon, will now take on eighth seed Fabio Fognini or a place in the semi-finals after the Italian required a deciding set to oust Spain's Albert Ramos-Vinolas 6-2 3-6 6-3.
The world No 67 is playing on clay for the second week following his exit to Croatian teenager Borna Coric in Umag.
He reached his first ATP Tour final in Chennai at the start of the year where he lost out to Stan Wawrinka before officially becoming a British citizen in March.
The International Tennis Federation announced in May that Bedene would not be allowed to represent Great Britain in the Davis Cup having already represented Slovenia, although the player and LTA plan to appeal the rule.
France's Benoit Paire rallied to upset second-seeded Tommy Robredo 2-6 6-3 7-5.
His compatriot Lucas Pouille is also through to the last eight thanks to his 6-1 7-5 victory over Argentinian sixth seed Juan Monaco, who was the 2012 Hamburg winner. Pouille will next meet Paire.
Uruguay's Pablo Cuevas defeated Argentina's Diego Schwartzman 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 in the first round while Czech Jiri Vesely is also through after coming from a set down to beat Austrian Andreas Haider-Maurer 3-6 6-1 6-0.
Vesely will play top-seeded Rafael Nadal in the second round.
