Britain's Naomi Broady battled into the second round of the Citi Open in Washington with a thrilling victory over Jarmila Gajdosova.
The Australian, ranked 136 places above Broady at 76 in the world, took the first set 6-3 and looked on course for victory only for Broady to level by taking the second 7-5.
The drama was not over and when the third set went to a tie-break, Gajdosova forced a match point at 6-5 - but Broady saved that and took the next two points to clinch a 3-6 7-5 7-6 (8-6) win in two hours and 18 minutes.
The 6ft 2in Broady's serve proved crucial, with 19 aces and only four double faults seeing her on her way to victory.
And she wrote on Twitter: "What amazing support I have from all the way across the Atlantic back home even in the middle of the night.
"And of course even out here in Washington the spectators and fellow players who came out to support me means a lot. Thanks everyone"
