Novak Djokovic and Rafa Nadal advance at Montreal Masters

World No 1 Novak Djokovic claimed his 50th win of the season win with a comfortable 6-2 6-1 victory over Jack Sock to reach the Montreal Masters quarter-finals on Thursday.

Playing in his second competitive match since winning his third Wimbledon crown, the top seed recorded his 28th consecutive win at the Masters level.

His victory, achieved in just 54 minutes, gave the Serb a last-eight match-up against Ernests Gulbis after the Latvian dispatched Donald Young 6-4 6-4.

The win was straightforward for three-time Canadian champion Djokovic, who broke Sock four times to win their first meeting.

"At the beginning of the match, I think we were both a bit rusty. I think he had more chances in the opening two or three service games of mine but I just managed to make the crucial break," said Djokovic.

"That was the turning point, going up 3-2 in the first set. Then I was in control.

"All in all, it was better than the first match and hopefully it is going to progress in that way," said Djokovic, who beat Thomaz Bellucci 6-3 7-6 in his opening contest.

Djokovic has won six titles in 2015 - the Australian Open and Wimbledon as well as four Masters events.

Meanwhile, seventh-seeded Rafael Nadal dispatched Russian qualifier Mikhail Youzhny 6-3 6-3 to reach the last-eight in Montreal.

The three-time champion at this ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event extended his tournament record to 28-6 and will next play Washington Open champion Kei Nishikori who beat world No 14 David Goffin 6-4 6-4  for a place in the last-four.
