Britain's Andy Murray takes on Kei Nishikori in the Montreal Masters semi-finals, live on Sky Sports 1 HD from 1am.
Second seed Murray saw off Tsonga 6-4 6-4, breaking the defending champion's serve once in each set to emerge victorious in a match which finished at around 1:30am local time.
Tsonga struck more winners with 31 to Murray's 24, but had double the amount of unforced errors at 28-14.
"A lot of the crowd stayed and that really helped me get motivated," said the Scot. "They created a good atmosphere out there and I appreciate everyone staying.
"I passed well. I came up with some good passing shots and that was the difference today."
Japanese fourth seed Nishikori, champion in Washington last week, advanced by beating three-time former champion Nadal for the first time, 6-2 6-4.
The world No 4 converted all four of the break points he earned, and saved two of the three he faced against the seventh seed from Spain.
"(Nadal) wasn't making many first serves tonight, so I knew I had to be more aggressive on the second serve," Nishikori said. "Everything was working well, so I am very happy to win."
Murray has beat Nishikori in four if their five meetings, only losing to him during his disappointing 2014 ATP World Tour Finals campaign.
The winner of the match will play either Novak Djokovic or Jeremy Chardy in the final. You can watch the world number one's match live on Sky Sports 5 from 8pm.
Andy Murray v Kei Nishikori will be live on Sky Sports 1 from 1am on Sunday morning (May be different to some listings).
