Naomi Broady is out of the Coupe Banque Nationale in Quebec after she was defeated 6-4 6-2 by Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko in their semi-final clash.

Having got into the event as a 'lucky loser', British number three Broady took full advantage, reaching her first ever WTA semi-final.

However, she could not take another step into a first final against the in-form teenager Ostapenko, who prevailed after just over an hour and a half.

The first set was keenly contested but Broady was unable to convert any of the six break-point opportunities she created, while Ostapenko managed to break in the fifth game.

And Broady again fell short at key moments in the second set, this time failing to capitalise on five chances to break, while Ostapenko broke twice to cruise into her maiden WTA final.

Ostapenko will face Annika Beck in the title decider on Sunday after the fifth seeded German defeated second seed and defending champion Mirjana Lucic-Baroni 6-2 2-6 6-4.
