Djokovic's appearance in the match extends a remarkable record across ATP Masters events - he has now reached a seventh consecutive final in a winning run that includes 15 matches and 20 straight sets.

He will have his eye on a third Shanghai crown having already defeated Andy Murray in the 2012 final and Juan Martin del Potro a year later.

Tsonga showed he had more than just racquet skills in Shanghai

Djokovic displayed his imperious form in the semi-finals on Saturday when he registered a one-sided win against Murray, emphasising the size of the task for Tsonga.

The Frenchman actually possesses a respectable, if losing, record against the world No 1. He has won six of their 19 meetings, which is by no means intimidating to Djokovic, but will provide some encouragement for Tsonga.
