Stan Wawrinka and Marin Cilic reach quarter-finals of French Open

Third seed and 2015 champion Stan Wawrinka reached the French Open quarter-finals on Monday, defeating Gael Monfils 7-5 7-6 (9-7) 6-2.
Wawrinka was a break down in the opening set but played tighter when it mattered while Monfils, who had been struggling with injuries this season, looked suddenly out of sorts.
Monfils, the 15th seed, had nothing left in the tank in the third set and could only watch on in frustration as Wawrinka reached the last eight without dropping a set in the tournament.
Mofils' exit means France's hopes of ending their 34-year-search for a men's champion at Roland Garros will extend into at least 2018.
Croatian seventh seed Cilic advanced after his fourth-round opponent, South Africa's Kevin Anderson, retired on Monday.
Cilic was 6-3 3-0 up after just 48 minutes on Court Suzanne Lenglen when Anderson, who was plagued with injuries last year, was unable to continue playing due to a thigh complaint.
Cilic is the first Croatian man in the quarter-finals since Mario Ancic and Ivan Ljubicic in 2006.
