Wimbledon betting: Johanna Konta is new Wimbldon favourite
Johanna Konta into 11/2 with Sky Bet following surprise defeat for Karolina Pliskova
Friday 7 July 2017 16:07, UK
For the first time in 40 years, a Briton is the favourite to win the Wimbledon ladies' singles title.
Karolina Pliskova joined Petra Kvitova in crashing out of the tournament on Thursday, going down 3-6 7-5 6-2 to Magdalena Rybarikova. Kvitova had lost to Madison Brengle on Wednesday.
Those losses have left Konta at the head of Sky Bet's title market at 11/2.
The British No 1 survived a scare herself on Wednesday when she beat Donna Vekic 10-8 in the final set of their second-round match and she next faces Maria Sakkari on Friday.
Konta's biggest rivals, according to the odds, are French Open finalist Simona Halep at 8/1 and the 2015 runner-up Garbine Muguruza at 9/1.
Five-time champion Venus Williams is a 10/1 shot, the same price as Coco Vandeweghe.
Rybarikova's odds have been slashed to 22/1 following her 15th win in 16 grasscourt matches this summer.
Not since the day of the Wimbledon final of 1977 - which saw Viriginia Wade beat Betty Stove to claim the title - has a Briton been favourite to win the Venus Rosewater Dish.
With defending champion Andy Murray a stronger contender in the men's singles, a British double could be on.
With Murray an 11/2 chance, that currently pays just over 41/1 with Sky Bet.
Odds correct at 1805 BST on 06/07/17.
