Jamie Murray claimed his second men's doubles grand slam crown alongside Bruno Soares after they clinched the US Open title by beating Pablo Carreno Busta and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.

The Scot was playing his fourth major final in men's doubles and has gone one step further at Flushing Meadows than last year, when he finished a runner-up alongside John Peers.

Murray and Soares claimed their first major title together at the Australian Open in January and now have another to add to their collection as they sailed past their Spanish opponents 6-2 6-3.

After Soares had sealed victory in Arthur Ashe Stadium with a crisp forehand volley, Murray and his partner embraced in celebration before holding their arms aloft.

It means Jamie and brother Andy have secured a combined three grand slam titles this year from five finals, but it is Jamie who finishes 2016 with the bragging rights after his two major triumphs.

"I'm starting to move out of the shadows a little bit," Jamie said, smiling. "There's a long way to go. Andy's had a great year - he did three grand slam finals, winning Wimbledon was huge and Olympic gold.

"It's a great feeling," Murray said. "These tournaments are the hardest ones to win, all the best teams are playing. The last couple of years I found a way to win, to play my best tennis at these events.

"I've got a great partner in Bruno who makes a lot of returns which is good for me up at the net and long may it continue."
