Russian takes third career title

Maria Kirilenko won the Estoril Open on Sunday with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Iveta Benesova. Benesova conceded five double faults as she slumped to her third consecutive defeat in a tournament final. Second-seed Kirilenko on the other hand, broke the Czech five times on the way to the third title of her career. Both women broke twice in the first set and went into the 10th game with the Russian leading 5-4. But, with Kirilenko on set point, the heavens opened forcing a 41 minute delay before she could claim the first set thanks to a net ball. Kirilenko took the first two games of the second set, winning 10 straight points before Benesova could reply. Kirilenko, who easily won their only previous meeting at Warsaw in 2005, won with her last break in the eighth game when Benesova returned into the net.
