French player claims her second WTA title with straight sets victory

Pauline Parmentier beat qualifier Lucie Hradecka 6-4 6-4 to win the Gastein Ladies clay-court tournament. The win gave the French fourth seed her second WTA title after her victory in Tashkent in 2007. But it was not plain sailing as Parmentier, who had beaten top seed Agnes Szavay in the semis, lost her opening service game. But the 22-year-old managed to stay in the game thanks to a string of unforced errors from Hradecka. She then finally got the break at 4-3 to wrap up the first set in 35 minutes, before twice breaking in the second. Hradecka managed to also break in the second but Parmentier was helped to victory by pulling out several aces at key moments of the game. Meanwhile, the Czech player gained some compensation later in the day when she went on to win her fifth doubles title with Andrea Hlavackova. The pair defeated Sesil Karatantschewa of Bulgaria and Serbia's Natasa Zoric 6-3 6-3.
