Flying Russian secures back-to-back victories with win in Canada.

In-form Dinara Safina continued her sparkling run by rolling right over unseeded Dominika Cibulkova in the Rogers Cup final to ensure back-to-back titles for the Russian. Safina has been the form player in women's tennis of late with her reaching five finals in her last six events, and she has now won three of those finals. The 22-year-old took her recent record to 28 wins and just three defeats in the last three months as she powered away to a 6-2 6-1 success in the Montreal final on Sunday. Unseeded Slovakian Cibulkova was comprehensively outgunned by Safina, who took just 68 minutes to add another title to her growing trophy cabinet. Safina won the prize in Los Angeles last week and she did not hang around as she made it successive championship victories with the win in Canada.

Final run

Cibulkova took out Jelena Jankovic on her way into the final, but she could not handle Safina in the final and the 19-year-old was broken in her first service game to trail 3-0 early on. The second set was even more comprehensive after Safina marched into a 4-0 lead before serving out without incident to claim the prize. After last week's victory, Safina was delighted to make it two in a row. "It's the first time in my life I have won tournaments back-to-back," Safina said. "Usually I would win a tournament and the next week I would lose in the first round. "So I was happy when I won the first match and then I was just taking it one match at a time." Safina's fine run, which has now seen her add title number eight, includes a surprising march to the French Open final at Roland Garros, where she lost to world number one Ana Ivanovic.
