Spain made sure they would top Group A in the Hopman Cup with an impressive 3-0 whitewash of hosts Australia.
United States awarded 3-0 win over Romania due to Hanescu's injury
Spain sealed a place in the final of the Hopman Cup in emphatic fashion with a 3-0 whitewash of tournament hosts Australia.
Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez and Tommy Robredo both recorded singles victories before combining to triumph 6-3 3-6 10-7 in the mixed doubles.
The result means the Spanish duo will top Group A with a perfect record having not swept their opponents in all three matches.
Australia had held slim hopes of reaching Saturday's final - provided they won every set. However, their dreams were dashed straight away when Martinez Sanchez came out on top in a tight first set against Samantha Stosur.
Having clinched top spot for Spain, who won the event in 1990 and 2002, the 26-year-old - who is yet to drop a set - eased to a 6-4 6-1 result.
Hard work
"It's not easy to play like this at the beginning of the season but I think I did (so) much work in the off-season, I suffered, so now I have my game," she said.
"I think this tournament is perfect preparation for me for the Australian Open."
Robredo was equally impressive against Lleyton Hewitt, defeating the former world number one 6-2 6-4.
Hewitt struggled on his own serve at the start of the match and also had to have treatment on his lower back after losing the opening set.
"We were told that if we won just one set that we would be in the final, but when we were checking the maths we were not so good with the numbers," Robredo, who won with Arantxa Sanchez Vicario in 2002, said.
"So we thoughts it is better that we just win a match. That was easier."
Spain will face the winners of Group B to decide who will take home the trophy. Great Britain currently lead the way but both Russia and Kazakhstan could still qualify.
Meanwhile, the other Group A saw the United States awarded a 3-0 victory due to an injury to Romania's Victor Hanescu.
Melanie Oudin had won the opening singles contest, seeing off Sorana Cirstea 6-2 6-3 in 59 minutes, before Hanescu was ruled out with a groin problem that he had picked up playing against Spain on Tuesday.
