Russian Maria Sharapova cruised into the third round of the China Open with a 6-2 6-2 win over Ukrainian Elina Svitolina in Beijing.

The fourth-seeded Sharapova saved seven of nine break points she faced against last week's semi-finalist at the Wuhan Open.

But Agnieszka Radwanska's late-season slump continued.

The Pole, seeded fifth, was beaten by Italy's Roberta Vinci 6-4 6-4. Since winning the Canadian Open in August, Radwanska has faled to advance past the quarter-finals in five events.

Radwanska was hoping for a decent run at the China Open to seal her place in next month's WTA Finals, the season-ending finale in Singapore featuring the world's top eight women players.
