Second-seed John Isner crashed out in the semi-finals of the Open de Nice as he suffered a straight-sets defeat to Austria's Dominic Thiem.
The 21-year-old will bid for the first ATP title of his career against Argentina's Leonardo Mayer after seeing off the powerful American 7-6 (7-5) 6-3.
Thiem capitalised on his opponent's weak second serve to carve out 11 break points, converting one in the first set and, crucially, one in the second which went unanswered to seal victory.
World No 42 Thiem said: "You don't play a final every week, so I am really happy. But if I lose tomorrow, I won't win the tournament. I will do everything I can to win my first title."
Mayer, the fourth seed, also needed only two sets to progress, recording a 6-4 6-3 success over Croatia's Borna Coric.
