Gilles Simon will tackle Sam Querrey in the quarter-finals of the Aegon Open in Nottingham after easing past Joao Sousa on Wednesday.
The French world No 13, who is seeded second, needed only an hour and 12 minutes to beat his Portuguese opponent 6-4 6-1, while 12th seed Querrey downed Pablo Cuevas 7-6 (9-7) 7-6 (7-3).
Leonardo Mayer of Argentina, the fourth seed, survived a spirited examination from Czech left-hander Jiri Vesely to progress 7-6 (7-2) 7-6 (7-5) and will now tackle Denis Istomin for a semi-final place.
