Former Barcelona and Manchester United keeper Victor Valdes is undergoing a medical at Middlesbrough, according to Sky sources.
The newly-promoted club hope to complete the signing of the free agent on Thursday.
The 34-year-old former Spain international has had an offer from Portugal and another from Turkey, according to Sky Sports' Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.
But Middlesbrough appear now to have won the race to sign him.
Valdes joined United on an 18-month deal in January 2015, having finished his rehabilitation from a cruciate knee ligament injury with the club.
Valdes tore the ligament playing for Barcelona almost a year earlier, ruling him out for the rest of the 2013-14 season and the 2014 FIFA World Cup, and he was subsequently released at the end of his contract that summer.
Valdes is a product of Barcelona's famous La Masia academy and he made almost 400 La Liga appearances in a 12-year stay in the first-team. He also won 20 caps for Spain.
