West Ham have told Simone Zaza he can leave the club in January, according to Sky sources.
The Italy striker joined the club on loan from Juventus in August and West Ham have decided not to take up the option of making the move permanent.
Zaza has failed to score in 11 appearances and he has missed the past two games with a knee injury.
West Ham would have to make the move permanent if Zaza plays 14 times.
A senior source at the club has told Sky Sports News HQ that Zaza would "probably" be returning to Juventus next month.
Zaza's agent says other clubs - including Valencia - are interested in signing him.
