Thierry Henry is in talks with New York Red Bulls over becoming the MLS club's manager, Sky Sports News understands.
The former Arsenal striker's first job as a manager ended disastrously, having been sacked by French club Monaco in January following just five wins in three months in charge.
But Henry, who played for the club from 2010 to 2014, is seen by Red Bulls as a candidate who can transform their fortunes on and off the pitch.
His arrival would raise their profile and have a dramatic effect on their commercial revenues.
Red Bulls are currently ninth in the 12-team MLS Eastern Conference.
They have won only one of their six MLS games this season.
