Bray Wyatt wins first WWE Title inside the Elimination Chamber
WWE Champion Wyatt set to face Randy Orton at WrestleMania
Tuesday 14 February 2017 16:32, UK
Bray Wyatt is poised for a WrestleMania 33 showdown with Wyatt Family stablemate Randy Orton after winning the WWE Title inside the Elimination Chamber on Sunday night.
Wyatt overcame pre-match champion John Cena as well as AJ Styles, The Miz, Dean Ambrose and Baron Corbin to claim his maiden world title.
The Eater of Worlds - who lastly pinned Styles having earlier eliminated Cena - should now defend the belt against Royal Rumble winner Orton at WWE's premier show in Orlando on April 2.
Orton has been an ally of Wyatt's since joining his faction last autumn, with the pair holding the Smackdown Tag Titles for a brief period in December.
But with Orton - who beat Luke Harper at Elimination Chamber - and Wyatt now set to meet at WrestleMania, their relationship could become strained, something that was teased during a post-match staredown.
Wyatt's reaction
Speaking to ESPN in the immediate aftermath of his victory, Wyatt said: "This is something that cements my legacy but I want to accomplish more. WrestleMania is right here. This pretty much tells me I'm in the main event at WrestleMania. That's pretty cool.
"To me it was an up-yours to the authority, because when I walked into this, I don't think anyone ever looked at me and said, 'One day you're going to be WWE champion'. I had to cut my teeth for years just to be recognised. No one looked at my direction. I had to grab them by the throat.
"This is a huge accomplishment for me, because no one else expected it - but I always did. I kept working and scrapping to get by all these years, and finally I get this moment, but I'm 29 and I have so much work left to do."
Story of the Chamber
Wyatt, who entered his inaugural Elimination Chamber Match as the fourth participant, was joined in the final three by Cena and Styles, the two men who had kicked off the bout.
The Florida-born wrestler dispatched Cena after countering an Attitude Adjustment into a Sister Abigail, ending The Cenation Leader's 16th world-championship reign at 14 days.
Wyatt then planted Styles - who had lost the WWE Title to Cena at the Royal Rumble on January 29 - with a match-winning Sister Abigail after catching the high-flyer's Phenomenal Forearm attempt.
Corbin was the first man eliminated, caught in a roll-up pin by Intercontinental Champion Ambrose as he paused and waited for the final entrant, The Miz, to emerge from his pod.
The Lone Wolf took his departure angrily, cracking Ambrose through a pod and nailing him with End of Days, allowing The Miz to cover The Lunatic Fringe for a simple pin.
The Miz was then defeated following a Cena Attitude Adjustment, during a match in which Cena performed a diving crossbody onto Wyatt and Styles from the top of a pod.
Orton edges Harper; Ziggler turns nasty
Orton picked up a victory in Phoenix but was made to work incredibly hard for it by former Wyatt Family comrade Harper - the Viper blasted with two superkicks before hitting an RKO.
Harper proved he has agility as well as size, by planting the 12-time world champion with a suicide dive and a sparkling Senton Atomico.
Dolph Ziggler, meanwhile, displayed his new-found nasty streak before and after he lost to Apollo Crews and Kalisto in a two-on-one handicap match.
The Show-Off ambushed Kalisto prior to the match and then wounded Crews' ankle with a chair after the former NXT powerhouse had beaten him with a spin-out powerbomb.
Naomi wins Women's Championship
Naomi scooped the Smackdown Women's Title from Alexa Bliss after hitting her rival with a split-legged moonsault and could now defend the belt in her home state of Florida at WrestleMania 33.
Elsewhere in the women's division, Becky Lynch pinned Mickie James with a roll-up, while Nikki Bella and Natalya's hard-hitting battle ended in a double count-out after they brawled outside the ring.
Plus, American Alpha retained the Smackdown Tag Team Titles during a Tag Team Turmoil Match against The Ascension, The Usos, The Vaudevillains, Breezango and Heath Slater and Rhyno.
Chad Gable and Jason Jordan were attacked by Jimmy and Jey Uso after eliminating them but recovered to defeat final team, The Ascension, by hitting Grand Amplitude on Viktor.
