Verdict

Few would begrudge George Margason and Young Mick victory here but we're going to take Pippa Greene to confirm the form of the Ascot race with Milne Graden and Wicked Daze two others that are likely to be popular here. Young Mick appeared to be desperately unlucky not to win at Ascot as the gaps refused to open for him but he fairly flew home when they did and he was only a length adrift of Pippa Greene at the line. He is 6lbs better off and equally effective on soft ground. He has gone close on one of his two runs over this trip but the selection may just see it out a little better. The Galileo colt is a late developer who has made rapid strides in a short space of time; he disappointed on his first two runs of the season but came back to his best last time and should have more in the locker. He's bred to relish this stiffer test of stamina and has run some of his best races with some cut in the ground and gets the nod. Tropical Strait won very easily last time, Bauer ran a blinder at Goodwood but has enough weight whilst money for Tony Martin's Salute Him would set the alarm bells ringing for many. Milne Graden was disappointing at Goodwood last time, especially given that he had already won on the track but he has twice snatched victory from the jaws of defeat and is a smart performer. Wicked Daze is respected following a grinding win at Ascot but his trainer has expressed doubts about whether he has sufficient class to win a race of this nature and it may pay to pay heed to his words. We certainly have and will overlook him in favour of Pippa Greene.
