Will Greenwood recently spent a day at Wigans' High Performance Training Centre at Orrell, taking part in a Warriors training session.
The Sky Sports pundit observed the Warriors in the gym and sat in on a team meeting before taking part in a session on the field, as the Warriors continued their preparations for the Challenge Cup quarter-final against Castleford this weekend.
The World Cup winner's visit comes in the same week league legend Andrew Johns was invited by Eddie Jones to train with England's rugby union team in Australia.
Dual-code international Brian Carney wrote in his column that Jones could learn a lot from league, with skill-sets in defence one of the factors, and Greenwood was impressed by the skills on display at Wigan.
"I knew that it would be a very professional environment at Wigan but I was still blown away by the intensity of the training and the attention to detail," said Greenwood.
I'm keen to continue to learn whatever we can from any other sport so to have Will on board was great for us too.
"Every player knows their role within the team and has their place and it was very impressive.
"Mark Bitcon and the fitness team obviously do a lot of good work with the team to get them ready to play and then Shaun Wane leads the team out on the field where they put in a lot of practice.
"The skill level from the team was just unbelievable and the communication and organisation in defence was brilliant too."
The 43-year-old says he is a fan of rugby league, grateful for the opportunity to observe the Warriors in action.
"I've always admired rugby league from afar so to get the chance to come and watch Wigan up close and to train alongside the players is something I'm very grateful for.
"I can't thank Shaun Wane, the coaching staff and the players enough for their time."
Warriors coach Wane was full of praise for Greenwood's enthusiasm in training.
"Will approached us and asked if he could come and see what we do and learn more about our sport.
"We were delighted to host him and he really put himself about on the field. He's still in great shape and really got stuck in.
"Will's a great bloke and we are always willing to welcome guests from other sports here at Wigan. I'm keen to continue to learn whatever we can from any other sport so to have Will on board was great for us too."
